The Wiley X XL-1 Advanced Comm combines interchangeable Clear, Grey and Light Rust lenses with slim COMM temples designed for use beneath earmuffs, hearing protection and ear-mounted communication equipment. Its high-wrap Matte Black frame and removable Facial Cavity™ Seal support tactical, defence and law-enforcement use across substantially different light conditions. The complete frame-and-lens system has undergone defined American military fragment-impact testing.
Clear provides an untinted view for indoor and reduced-light conditions, Grey reduces brightness in strong sunlight, and Light Rust enhances contrast in medium- to low-light environments.
The slim COMM temples reduce the amount of frame material beneath compatible ear-mounted equipment. Fit and interaction may vary according to the hearing protection, headset and wearer. The removable Facial Cavity™ Seal provides an additional barrier against wind, dust, debris and peripheral light but does not create a completely sealed enclosure.
Clear, Grey and Light Rust cover bright, untinted reduced-light and contrast-enhancing conditions.
Slim temple arms reduce bulk beneath compatible hearing protection and communication equipment.
The Base Curve 8 profile provides a more enveloping fit than medium-wrap eyewear.
The Facial Cavity™ Seal helps limit wind, dust, debris and peripheral light.
The complete frame-and-lens system has undergone ANSI, military fragment-impact and European impact testing.
This configuration has been assigned a NATO Stock Number for standardised procurement and inventory management.
The XL-1 Advanced Comm three-lens set is suited to tactical, defence and law-enforcement users who wear protective eyewear with earmuffs, hearing protection or communication headsets and may move between strong daylight, indoor environments and contrast-demanding conditions. Airsoft and hardball are credible secondary applications where the changing-light range and tested eyewear system are relevant.

The lightweight Triloid™ Nylon frame has a Matte Black, non-glossy finish and a close-fitting Base Curve 8 profile.
The lightweight Triloid™ Nylon frame has a Matte Black, non-glossy finish and a close-fitting Base Curve 8 profile.
Its slim COMM temples are designed to occupy less space beneath compatible ear-mounted equipment than conventional eyewear arms. This may reduce interference, although fit and pressure will depend on the equipment and individual wearer.
The removable Facial Cavity™ Seal forms a soft barrier around the eyes to help reduce the entry of wind, dust and debris while limiting peripheral light. It does not make the eyewear completely sealed or guarantee exclusion of fine particles.
The Clear lens provides 89% light transmission without adding a tint, helping colours retain their natural appearance. It is intended for indoor settings, dawn, dusk, haze, overcast weather and other conditions where a dark lens may reduce useful visibility.
The Grey lens provides 15% light transmission, reducing brightness and general glare while keeping colours relatively natural. It is suited to strong sunlight and bright outdoor conditions rather than indoor or substantially reduced-light environments.
The Light Rust lens provides 52% light transmission. Its tint filters blue light to help manage haze and increase contrast, making it relevant to medium- and low-light conditions where greater separation between objects and backgrounds may be useful.
All three lenses are made from Selenite™ polycarbonate and block 100% of UVA and UVB rays. The T-Shell™ coating helps resist scratches and surface damage but does not make the lenses scratch-proof.
This configuration is assessed against ANSI Z87.1, MIL-PRF-32432A, EN.166F.
Assesses the complete eyewear against defined high-velocity and high-mass impact requirements. These include tests using a fast-moving 6.35 mm steel ball and a 500 g pointed falling projectile; the frame and lens must remain intact under the specified conditions.
Assesses the complete frame-and-lens system against the defined American military fragment-impact requirement for its product category.
Confirms that the complete eyewear has passed a defined European low-energy impact test in which the lens must remain secured within the frame and must not shatter under the specified conditions.
