The XL-1 Advanced Comm two-lens set combines slim COMM temples with a removable Facial Cavity™ Seal and interchangeable Clear and Grey lenses. The temples are designed for use beneath ear-mounted equipment, while the foam seal helps reduce the entry of wind, dust, debris and peripheral light around the eyes.

Product description

The XL-1 Advanced Comm is designed for situations where protective eyewear must be worn alongside earmuffs or other ear-mounted hearing and communication equipment. Its slim temples reduce bulk beneath this equipment, while the removable Facial Cavity™ Seal forms a soft foam barrier around the eyes.

Clear and Grey interchangeable lenses cover two distinctly different light levels. Grey reduces glare and brightness in strong sunlight, while Clear offers high light transmission for indoor use or conditions where a dark tint is unnecessary.

The complete frame-and-lens system has been assessed against defined civilian impact and American military fragment-impact requirements, making this configuration particularly relevant to tactical, defence and law-enforcement use.

Key features

Slim COMM temples

Designed for use beneath earmuffs and other ear-mounted hearing or communication equipment.

Removable Facial Cavity™ Seal

A soft foam barrier helps reduce the entry of wind, dust, debris and peripheral light around the eyes.

Two interchangeable lenses

Clear and Grey options cover untinted low-light and bright-sun conditions.

Lightweight frame

Triloid™ Nylon keeps unnecessary frame mass low.

Defence procurement

This configuration has been assigned a NATO Stock Number for standardised procurement and inventory management.

Military fragment-impact testing

The complete frame-and-lens system has been assessed against a defined American military requirement.

Product fit and comfort view
Fit & comfort

Designed to adjust, built to stay secure

The frame is made from Triloid™ Nylon, a lightweight, durable non-metal material. Its low weight supports comfortable wear, while the material contributes to the frame strength required for rigorous safety testing. The Matte Black finish gives the frame a subdued, non-glossy appearance.

Lens details

Clear

89% light transmission

The Clear lens allows a high proportion of available light to reach the eyes without adding a tint, helping colours retain a natural appearance. It is intended for indoor use and low-light conditions such as dawn, dusk, haze and overcast weather.

Grey

15% light transmission

The Grey lens reduces intense glare and brightness while keeping colours close to their natural appearance. It is intended for strong sunlight and other bright outdoor conditions.

Both lenses are made from Selenite™ polycarbonate, providing the strength and durability needed for demanding optical safety testing. Their T-Shell™ scratch-resistant coating helps limit surface damage, although scratch-resistant does not mean scratch-proof. Both lenses also provide 100% UVA and UVB protection.

Protection backed by defined testing

This configuration is assessed against ANSI Z87.1, MIL-PRF-32432A, EN.166F.

ANSI Z87.1

Assesses the complete eyewear against defined high-velocity and high-mass impact tests. These include a fast-moving 6.35 mm steel ball and a 500 g pointed falling projectile; the frame and lenses must remain intact during testing.

MIL-PRF-32432A

Assesses the complete frame-and-lens system against a defined American military high-speed fragment-impact requirement, with test velocities set according to the eyewear category.

EN.166F

Confirms that the frame and lens have passed a defined low-energy impact test in which the lens must remain in the frame and must not shatter under the specified conditions.
