The Wiley X Spear is a protective-goggle system supplied with interchangeable Clear, Grey and Light Rust shields. Its adjustable elastic strap, removable Facial Cavity™ Seal and NVG-compatible design support tactical use across changing light and environmental conditions. The complete goggle-and-shield system has been assessed against a defined American military fragment-impact requirement.
The three shields cover distinctly different conditions: Grey reduces brightness in strong sunlight, Clear provides an untinted view indoors and in reduced light, and Light Rust increases contrast in medium- to low-light environments.
An elastic strap with a Tri-Glide™ adjustment system controls the retention length, while quick-release key connections allow the strap to be detached from the goggles. The removable Facial Cavity™ Seal helps limit wind, dust, debris and peripheral light around the eyes.
Clear, Grey and Light Rust options support changing light conditions without requiring another goggle frame.
The elastic strap uses a Tri-Glide™ system and quick-release key connections.
The Facial Cavity™ Seal helps reduce the entry of wind, dust, debris and peripheral light.
The goggles are compatible with night vision equipment and supported helmet-rail attachment systems.
This three-shield configuration has been assigned a NATO Stock Number for standardised procurement and inventory management.
The Spear is particularly relevant to tactical and defence activities involving changing light, airborne irritants, helmets or night vision equipment. The three shields allow the goggle system to be adapted while the adjustable strap and removable seal address retention and environmental interference.

The Matte Black goggle frame is made from lightweight, durable Triloid™ Nylon. Its subdued, non-glossy finish avoids unnecessary reflective styling.
The Matte Black goggle frame is made from lightweight, durable Triloid™ Nylon. Its subdued, non-glossy finish avoids unnecessary reflective styling.
The elastic strap uses a Tri-Glide™ system to adjust its length and quick-release key connections for detachment. Compatible Wiley X ARC and Team Wendy rail-attachment systems may be fitted separately when the goggles are used with supported tactical helmets.
The removable Facial Cavity™ Seal forms a soft barrier around the eyes but does not create a completely sealed enclosure. Symmetrical ventilation allows airflow through the goggles; environmental conditions and airflow can still affect condensation and the entry of fine particles.
The Clear shield allows a high proportion of available light through without adding a tint, helping colours retain their natural appearance. It is intended for indoor use, dawn, dusk, haze and overcast conditions.
The Grey shield reduces brightness and general glare in strong sunlight while keeping colours close to their natural appearance. It is intended for bright outdoor conditions rather than reduced-light environments.
The Light Rust shield filters selected blue light to help reduce glare and haze while increasing contrast. It is intended for medium- to low-light conditions where distinguishing details may otherwise be more difficult.
All three shields are made from strong, durable Selenite™ polycarbonate and provide 100% UVA and UVB protection. Their T-Shell™ coating helps resist scratches and limit surface damage, although scratch-resistant does not mean scratch-proof.
This configuration is assessed against ANSI Z87.1, MIL-PRF-32432A, EN.166B.
Assesses the complete goggles against defined high-velocity and high-mass impact requirements. These include tests using a fast-moving 6.35 mm steel ball and a 500 g pointed falling projectile; the goggle frame and shields must remain intact during testing.
Assesses the complete goggle-and-shield system against a defined American military fragment-impact requirement. Goggle testing uses the projectile and velocity specified for that product category.
Confirms that the complete goggles have been assessed against defined medium-energy impact requirements.
